Introduction: I write this essay on Jun 12, 2014. I write this essay because we learn to write our belief in the class.
Conclusion: The hardest part of this essay is finding an example that fit our belief. I did well on finding some quotations of my belief. However, I need to improve by using more detailed words instead of using "thing" again and again. I learn how to write down our belief into an essay by writing this assignment.
Controlling ourselves in order to success
When I was young, I believed happiness was the most important thing
in a person’s life. I thought people should do whatever they liked to do. I did
not always consider the consequences of my actions. I talked directly to other
people about their mistakes. It hurt other people sometimes but I didn’t think
I was wrong. However, one day after talking with my grandfather when I was 13
years old, I began to see things differently.
It was a rainy day. My grandfather didn’t stroll down the street
like he normally did, and stayed home. He was 64 years old at that time. He had
retired in 2010. He wasn’t happy after he retired because he didn’t have anything
to do at home. He always chatted with me. He said retiring from work gave him a
lot of free time, and drinking beer became an important part of his everyday
life. In 2012 during Chinese New Year, he drank too much. He had a stomachache
and felt very tired. He went to bed and slept. As he got up after sleeping over
4 hours, he had a headache, and fell over on the floor. His head was wounded
and bleeding. He went to the hospital after that. He finally realized it was
important to stay healthy as he became old. He controlled himself and stopped drinking
too much. He bought snacks to draw his attention to other things instead of
beer. Finally, he succeeded and gave up his bad habit. I felt pity for my
grandfather, and I realized we can’t always do whatever we want to in our life.
I thought about the time when I said things without considering the consequences.
Although I felt happy communicating in this way, it might hurt others, and I would
lose friends. I should try to see things from the other person’s perspective. When
I asked my grandfather why he gave up what he liked, he answered that
sometimes, the things we like become obstacles we face in our lives. We must
learn to control ourselves.
Laura Moncur, a famous writer, who says
“Self-control is what differentiates us from the beasts. Without it, we are
merely animals.”
I sometimes get angry in my life. When I have to solve a very
difficult math problem and after it took me a long time, I feel bored and
angry. It seems like my head is going to explode like a bomb. I need to control
my temper and think about other ways to solve this problem. If I can’t control
my temper, I will never solve this problem and get a better grade. Therefore, I
believe we should control ourselves in a lot of aspects in order to lead us to
success.
Resting from school work, I liked to play a card game on computer. I
was obsessed and could not stop playing when study time began. I start to focus
on the things that I am doing now instead of other unimportant tasks after
talking with my grandfather
I learned that sometimes the things that we would like to do are not
the thing that we should. If we want to solve a problem or overcome a hard task
in our life, the first thing we should do is to control our actions. If people
always try their best to control themselves, they will be successful.
